Vicente Feliú and Alejandro Valdés performed to an appreciative overflow audience at the Bolivarian Hall of the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. The concert was part of a U.S. tour by both Cuban musicians. People in DC had a unique opportunity to hear the troubadours sing Cuban Nueva Trova Movement songs.
The Ambassador of Cuba, Jorge Bolaños and Angelo Rivero the Charge d'Affaires at the Washington Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela were present. Rafael Cancel Miranda received an emotional standing ovation when it was announced that the beloved Puerto Rican independence leader and fighter was in the audience.
The concert took place on September 12, the 14th anniversary of the unjust arrest of Gerardo, Ramón, Antonio, Fernando and René. The cultural evening was not a celebration but rather served as a platform to renew the determination of supportive friends within the United States to continue the struggle for the return of the Five to Cuba.
Feliu and Valdés will be special guests on Friday September 14 at a public event in the Festival Center, 1640 Columbia Road, NW in Washington at 7:30 pm. This activity is part of the actions that are being carried out in all parts of the world in support of the Five. The program will feature the participation of Rafael Cancel Miranda, Tom Hayden and other guests. The two performers will continue their tour of the United States with a concert in New York on Saturday, September 15, followed by a concert in San Francisco at the Brava Theater on September 20.
